If anybody thinks of San Pedro at all, it's usually as the southern terminus of the 110, the place where Charles Bukowski spent his final years, or the home of legendary punk trio The Minutemen. To me it's all of these things, but it was also my home for two years. December in Pedro is mostly something I never got the hang of. The weather's pleasant, the Christmas carols are all modern covers and the first and last Decembers I spent there were both shot through with pretty heavy personal losses. But Pedro was the first place I drove my Fiesta after picking it up out at Willow Springs and it was the last stop before I made the trek — along with my friend Hilary — to the hotel in West Hollywood where we turned in our cars.
