Blind School - Gandhinagar, Gujarat

Music education has a profound impact on the creative expression and communication of blind children. At a school in Gandhinagar for children who are both blind and come from impoverished backgrounds, children receive musical instruction for two hours each day. The staff believes that music education has played a major role in enabling the school to achieve an astonishing 90% graduation and retention rate. Over the past eight years, Robin has been supporting this unique music education program through periodic site visits and fundraising. During his Fulbright Research period, Robin was able to spend extended time with the children and teachers at the Blind School documenting techiniques and outcomes. His time with the school resulted in a renewed effort to bolster the music education program, which has had a remarkable effect on the concentration skills and joy of each child involved.
