Court Ruling Deals Blow To Norm Coleman

      03/31/09 - Washington post

A three-judge state panel convened to review an election contest
brought by former Minnesota Sen. Norm Coleman (R) in his race
against entertainer Al Franken (D) has dealt the Republican a
serious setback in its ruling this afternoon.

"The overwhelming weight of the evidence indicates that the November 4, 2008, election was conducted fairly, impartially and accurately," the judges wrote. "There is no evidence of a systematic problem of disenfranchisement in the state's election system, including in its absentee-balloting procedures."

Coleman Won't Say Whether He's Been Interviewed By FBI

      04/03/09 - Sam Stein:

"On Thursday, the former Minnesota Senator refused to say
whether or not the FBI had contacted him over allegations that
he and his wife had accepted (and failed to report) $75,000 in
payments from a longtime benefactor. It was, close observers
of the case note, the first time that Coleman has failed to deny
      being contacted by investigators."

Also: "As Norm Coleman struggles in what appears to be
a losing battle to reclaim his Senate seat, and as faint rumors
spread that he could replace Michael Steele as RNC Chair..."

Minn. Court declares Franken Leading Vote-Getter

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — A Minnesota court confirmed Monday that Democrat Al Franken won the most votes in his 2008 Senate race against Republican Norm Coleman, who had already announced plans to appeal the decision.

"The overwhelming weight of the evidence indicates that the November 4, 2008, election was conducted fairly, impartially and accurately," the judges wrote. "There is no evidence of a systematic problem of disenfranchisement in the state's election system, including in its absentee-balloting procedures."

Joe Scarborough To Coleman: "You Lost... It Is Over"

      "SERIOUSLY.... YOU LOST. OKAY"

MSNBC's Joe Scarborough offered a preemptive and withering
criticism of Coleman's likely appeal of that decision to the state
      Supreme Court.

"Seriously. Norm, I like you. You lost. Okay," he said. "Can we
seat a senator so Amy [Klobuchar] doesn't have to do the job of two
Senators? It is seriously not fair to constituents in Minnesota to drag
this out any longer. It is over Norm, okay. It is over."
