Natural foam and tannins, Kawhaka Forest, West Coast.

Many West Coast creeks have a disctinctive reddish tint, and are topped with white foam, giving the, the appearance of a dark ale. The tannins are leached from forest vegetation, humus and soil, and the foam is comprised of algae and other aquatic plants that have died off at the end of their life cycle. Both are quite natural, and indicate a healthy forest stream.
