The southern warmer California Sonoran Deseert and its northern neighbor, the cooler Mojave Desert, meet within Joshua Tree National Park. Since the Joshua Tree grows only in the Mojave, when you enter the park through its southern Cottonwood entrance, you don't see the park's namesake until you drive (and stop to sightsee and walk) for a few hours. The tallest trees grow to a height of 40 feet (about 12 meters).
