Snowy Owl DSC_0388

It was a good day for birds. Started out at the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary where I saw Mallards, Geese, Common Mergansers, a Hooded Merganser and my first Wood Duck sighting of the spring. Then headed out of the city to see if the Snowy Owls were still around. They were.

Went up to "Snowyland" thinking I probably wouldn't see any snowy's, but had to make one last trip. Boy was I wrong! I stopped at one of the spots where they have been seen, got out of my car, scanned 360° with my binoculars and saw at least a dozen birds. I have never seen this before, I don't know if they were massing for migration or what, but it sure was cool. I have to Google this behaviour and see what's up. Ended up seeing 15+ snowy's on the day.

This one was a couple k's west of the mass snowy sighting. It let me get quite close to it, on foot, as it flew down a fenceline to 3 different fence posts.
