      OMG, is this soup awesome!!!! Have made it this way several times and have gotten rave reviews from family and friends. Have also tweeked it, i.e., using butternut squash (1 cup or more cooked and mashed) and instead of potatoes, added arborio rice (3/4 cup) & mushrooms (sauteed what I had on hand 6 or 7), and instead of kale (because I ran out) used fresh spinach. Still excellent. Don't forget the ground hot pepper flakes (had a small packet from the pizza guy), just the right amount of heat. For an extra boost of flavor add one of those concentrated Homestyle Stock pucks . If I use the puck I omit the salt...there's plenty already in the broth and sausage. You can always salt at the table if you wish. This is a real keeper.
