Stringfellow Monument Chard

John Stringfellow built and flew his steam powered model aeroplane in 1848.

The flight took place in Chard, Somerset, and as such is the first recorded instance of a flying machine achieving flight under its own power.

The event is recorded by a bronze replica erected in Chard High Street.
