SMASHfestUK 2017 - Supervolcano - Cryovolcano Guinness World Record attempt
This year SMASHfestUK aimed to break records! With over 5500 young people taking part in our schools outreach and 4000 visitors to the main festival, we engaged nearly 10 000 people... doubling the numbers on last year! We also went for a world record with the biggest working liquid nitrogen model cryo volcano ever built. Topping 5m it was a whopper. Young people during outreach, visitors and lots of our engineering team contributed to its build and decoration, so the record will be held by all who contributed. All that needs to happen now is confirmation. Fingers crossed!
But that is not all that went on during the week. In the garden as well as the volcano was the Survival Village - with all sorts of activities exploring how we can rebuild all that we take for granted, if disaster hits us. In the Deptford Lounge and Albany Theatre Café and Foyer and Upstairs, artists, scientists and engineers created activities, games and demos around the Supervolcano eruption, whilst in the Red room and Auditorium were a huge range of shows to tickle anyone's fancy from our commissioned play to the SMAHfestUK variety shows. All ending with an indoor pyrotechnic spectacular on Friday afternoon.
We do hope you were there to see it all and so hope that these images will get the memories flooding back. If you weren’t then we hope that they make you want to come next time!
