Tybee Island Beach Renourishment 2014

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers oversees a storm protection project at Tybee Island, Georgia, in late 2014. The project moves beach-quality sand from off-shore onto the beach to protect the town from damage casued by passing storms. The project has the additional benefit of enhancing the beach. Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company accomplishes the work under contract with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Roger Nichols, a retired U.S. Navy veteran, is the Site Safety and Health Advisor for Great Lakes Dredge and Dock company at the Georgia project. (US Army Corps of Engineers photo by Billy Birdwell)
