Maple Wings- the Fuzzy Part

Two for Tuesday!

The fuzzy helicopter seed pods seem to be unique to Acer macrophyllum (bigleaf maple or Oregon maple). It is native to western North America, mostly near the Pacific coast, from southernmost Alaska to southern California. Some stands are also found inland in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains of central California, and a tiny population occurs in central Idaho. That explains why I didn't see these in Illinois. But I lived in Oregon for 25 years and didn't notice this until I started taking photos with my macro lens.
