2011 Habersham Marketplace Chili Cookoff
The fourth annual Chili Cook-off was held February 5th, 2011 in the Habersham Marketplace. Less-than-ideal weather did not keep chili lovers from venturing out to the early afternoon event. Aptly named, Chicken & Whisky, a local southern classic rock trio kept the crowd moving despite the drizzling rain. The Marketplace shops were open for business, so if you weren’t a chili eater, there were plenty of opportunities to shop and have fun. Maggie's Pub and Piace Pizza provided warm respite and cold beer to accompany the chili!
Again this year, three separate divisions were competing for top honors. Over a dozen registrants vied for Best Chili in the Lowcountry in public, service (police, fire, and USMC), and professional (restaurant) categories.
This year's winners included Habersham's own Allegra Craig (Joli Home & Events) taking first prize in the public division, Naomi & Brad Leeman's "Cincinnati Chili" took first place in the service (USMC) division and Chef Brian Waters from Saltus River Grill captured the professional division title.
