This is a project I thought of a while back, after I did my last set of alphabets. It occurred to me that there were various objects that looked like letterforms, but weren't. I thought it'd be fun to photograph them and construct an alphabet from such items. I limited photographs to the UWM campus. My rules were: no actual letters; I could alter the original photographs slightly (amp up contrast, skew the angle digitally) but could not add or subtract elements to make a letter appear that was not present. The hardest letter? R...it became easier once I abstracted the form to a circle and a right triangle, but I lucked out in finding an object that looked even more like an "R" than that. And S was hard to find on such a geometrical, right-angle-loving campus. I'll be putting up the individual letter photos shortly, with info as to their source.
