From Day Eight of my 10 day Southwest Adventure. I had gotten to Valley of Fire about 1:00 AM, found a quiet place to park, then crawled into the back of my truck to sleep. At dawn my alarm went off...I hit the snooze...twice! I washed my face, ate a protein bar, and drank some cold coffee before heading out.
On my last visit here, I noticed this spot coming back out of the Fire Wave slot canyon, but the light had crested the canyon wall washing out half of the scene. I had forgotten one of the cardinal rules of landscape photography...turn around! So, I promised myself I had to reshoot it on a return visit and comped the crap out of this area getting all the abstracts I could.
I then spent the morning wandering and found another small slot canyon. Not as pretty, but it had more of this type of marbleized rock. I spent a little time shooting, then sat in the morning silence enjoying my solitude.
Two days left of my vacation and it was no longer about trying to get as many great shots in as many fabulous places as possible. I was cruisin' and happy to be out discovering the world.
Hope you've all had a great weekend, and thanks for stopping by for a look!
