muzita abyssinian bistro in university heights. san diego
word around town is that its one of the best places in san diego for east african, eritrean cuisine.
if not THE best.
Abel, the owner, and the folks at Muzita have a great thing going. the recipes all come from his mom, who along with Abel and his wife do the preparation and cooking in the restaurant. the staff was extremely helpful, and Abel himself came over to point out his personal favorites on the menu. the guy has an obvious passion for the food.
pictured above (along with sides of timtimo, hamli and alitcha atakilti):
siga kilwa - sauteed all natural grass-fed brandt beef, herbs, tesmi, garlic and serrano
zigini beggie - berbere braised leg of lamb, stewed tomato and onion
prawn kilwa - mes marinated prawns, herbs, white wine awaze sauce. note, these are some HUGE prawns! highly recommended!
its located in university heights on park blvd, san diego. very close to park house eatery and lei lounge.
picture notes: taken with my new nikon 17-55! it finally arrived from b&h today! the 50mm f1.8 would have been a better choice in the low light but i couldn't help it. i was dying to try it out.
