Hitzacker an der Elbe 01

The picture shows the marketplace surrounds from half-timbered houses in the middle the flounder bubbles. He points the 12th century when Dutch dyke farmers forced the Elbe in her bed. They expelled - according to the legend - river king and mermen of the sandy benches. From revenge the gigantic fish destroyed the dykes. The piece of art on the marketplace is contemporary. The flounder was poured in the 80th by the Hitzackeraner sculptor Waldemar Nottbohm from bronze.
