Hard light

So what do you do when you are at a great location with all your strobist gear and your model doesn't show up?

Instead of heading back home I tried to make the best of it and asked a few of the youngsters having a small party in one of the factory halls whether I could shoot a few pictures of them. As it appeared they were about to leave (it was 2pm and they had been partying since the night before) so I made a quick setup. Went for some hard light as thought that would work well with the subject and surroundings, especially in black & white. The original idea was to also add a bit of soft light for fill but without a third lightstand and no clear-headed VAL around I went for a two light setup with bare speedlights.

Strobist info: two bare SB600's at 1/4th power at eyelevel, left and right of the model, triggered with Cactus V4 triggers.

Think it came out pretty well - big thumbs up for my unexpected model who saved my day.
