Cheap LED Backlight (01)

I needed a backlight to photograph the vintage negative plates I found.

By change I saw this Eurodomest LED Panel at one of our local shops. It has a square illuminated field of 12,3 x 12,3 cm so just enough to act as backlight for 9x12cm plates. Moreover it was very cheap, only 10 Euros while a professional backlight would cost me more then 100 Euros.

To my surprise the field was very evenly lit which is a nice bonus. With 15W of power it produces 1050 Lumen so it has strong light but without generating much heat.

I used 2 sheets of inkjet paper to soften the light but i'm not entirely satisfied with this solution as the paper is not homogeneous enough causing irregular results. Must find a better solution for that like milky white glass or plastic.

I used this backlight only for black and white negatives and for that it is ideal. It is probably not good enough for color work.
