One of the mose obtuse and little known pieces in the Flintstones vault of concept art...this could have been a great show!

This would have been a great show, but the fact that the word "black" was used as a reference probably would have been considered racist by uber sensitive people.

OMG this is a great concept.
H-B was probably taking a cue from such shows as "Good Times", "Sanford and Son" and "Fat Albert".
I have to agree though, "Blackstones" seems a little harsh.
If the proposed series had a more streamline name like "The Evenstones" or something it could have been the first African American animated sitcom show.

Believe it or not, Joe Barbera mentions in his autobio that he actually had the idea to do this! "My Life in 'Toons" pg 249: "One of my favorite denizens of the graveyard is a show called "The Blackstones" which was created about 1966 or 1967 and featured a black Stone Age family who move nextdoor (sic) to Fred Flintstone with results so interesting and provocative that no network or syndicator would touch it."

Hi, I'm an admin for a group called Flintstones Memorabilia International (FMI), and we'd love to have this added to the group!

I READ THAT THIS FAMILY WAS CREATED/ DRAWN & PRESENTED BY A INFAMOUS ASIAN HB ARTIST, EVENTUALLY THEY THOUGHT THAT THE PUBLIC WASN'T READY FOR BLACK NEIGHBORS (FOR THE FLINTSTONES.. THEY BROUGHT THE GRUESOMES IN INSTEAD. SO THE PUBLIC WOULD'VE BEEN MORE ACCEPTING OF MONSTERS THAN AFRO-AMERICANS? 'THAT'S' SCARY!

AND THOUGH WE'RE MINDFUL OF POLITICAL CORRECTNESS 'NOW', I THINK THE NAME 'BLACKSTONE' PROBABLY WOULD'NT OF RAISED MANY EYE-BROWS BACK THEN.. REMEMBER THE TWO COLOR, HAIR CHANGING DOLL, 'TIFFANY TAYLOR'?.. HER BLACK COUNTERPART WAS NAMED 'TAYLOR JONES'!! JUST SAYIN'.. :)
