Paris to Angoulême, Day 1 - Montlhery to Orleans
60km Evening ride on the first day, from Etampes to Orleans to the D97.
After a very warm day, the temperatures plummeted as soon as the sun dropped below the horizon, and as we only had the wool jerseys and shorts for the whole trip, we found it decidedly chilly. Initial plans to rest for a few hour that first night on the side of the road in our capes had to be abandoned and we shared a motel room with our support driver.
It was a ride Tolkien would have loved, as we rode through a pitch black Mirkwood like forest with a nearly full moon shinning over the treetops.
There was little traffic, just the flashing red lights from wind turbines on the horizon for company, and a surprised wild boar!
