Our Lady of Peñafrancia

This is the pilgrim image of Our Lady of Penafrancia that visited Cebu for the first time on September 29 - September 30, 2007. Despite the typhoon that would hit Camarines at that time, the Virgin Mary made her way to Cebu to attend the 25th anniversary of the foundation of the Bicolanos Association in Cebu. Her devotion started in Salamanca, Spain and spread eastward to the Philippines where she is regarded as "Ina" to the Bicolanos. Her feast day is celebrated on the 3rd Sunday of September in the whole of Bicolandia where she is venerated as their patroness. In Cebu, her feast is celebrated mostly by the Bicol Association of Cebu Inc on the last Sunday of September, where novena masses take place officiated by Bicolano priests based in Cebu. A very touching gesture of love to "Ina" can be best felt after every novena when the "Resuene vibrante el himno de Amor..." is played. A replica of the original image enthroned in Naga City (Camarines Sur) is permanently enthroned at the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Parish (Capitol Parish) since 1982.
