Waiting for the off
The Grace Spitfire parked up and waiting for Carolyn Grace to take her up for a spin (see later photos once I post them...).
Taken at the Imperial War Museum, Duxford.
The Grace Spitfire is a Mk IXc which served with 485(NZ) Squadron during WWII and is most notable for shooting down a JU-88 on D-Day whilst the squadron patrolled the US invasion beach code-named Omaha. OU-V's pilot that day and throughout the war was New Zealander Johnnie Houlton.
After the war the aircraft was converted into a two-seater trainer for the Irish Air Force. The aircraft was also used in the filming of "The Batttle of Britain".
