Eider (Somateria mollissima)

Present around the Isle of May all year, Eider Ducks come ashore in the Spring to breed with around 1000 nests across the island. While the ducks are much drabber than the instantly recognisable drakes, they're nevertheless a very attractive mixture of brown and grey as demonstrated by these two sitting amongst the Sea Campion beside the Loch on the island where many Eiders gather to look after their ducklings in crèches.
