Eider (Somateria mollissima)

Present around the Isle of May all year, Eider Ducks come ashore in the Spring to breed with around 1000 nests across the island. While the ducks are much drabber than the instantly recognisable drakes, a close look at this bird swimming in the harbour at Kirkhaven, reveals how attractive their mottled plumage actually is.
