Little Egret (Egretta garzetta)

Little Egrets are a common passage migrant through Cyprus but only a handful actually stay to breed on the island - less than are now breeding in the UK !

The largest numbers move through in late April/early May and this individual, in hunting pose, was part of a large flock of 70 birds stopping off at Lady's Mile on the shores of Akrotiri Salt Lake near Limassol. Check out that yellow foot !
