Honey Buzzard (Pernis apivorus)

Continuing my trawl through a lot of archive photos, I had a look at the numerous shots of the thousands of raptors we saw at Tarifa on the southern tip of Spain a few years ago. Most of them are fairly distant and not particularly clear but I was pleasantly surprised to find this reasonable shot of a Honey Buzzard. Best viewed 'large'.

From the raptor viewing point above the town, this was one of over 2250 Honey Buzzards that flew over that day heading for Africa via the Straits of Gibraltar and over four days, we recorded no fewer than 8600 of this species !
