Hatching out! An African Spur-Thigh Tortoise (Geochelone Sulcata)
I was in Florida for this blessed event! The hatching of several African Spur-Thigh (Geochelone Sulcata) Tortoises.
My grown son is a turtle/tortoise breeder and conservationist, in his spare time. (His career path is industrial engineering.) He rescuse and raises rare breeds and endangered turtle/tortoise species.
When a female is gravid, he watches her for nesting behavior and then incubates the eggs after she's laid them. He carefully cares for the hatchlings once they've emerged from their eggs until they can manage on their own in the aquarium or turtle habitat he creates for them.
Paul has written and published several scholarly articles in turtle/tortoise journals sharing his experience with raising rare breeds, and was invited to present a scholarly paper in Germany.
