painting Fortingall Yew -stage 1
I indicated the positions of the main branches then put 2 washes over the whole page. The top was a mix of Cerulean Blue with a touch of light red. The bottom, the ground was the same with some Ultramarine Violet . When all of this was dry (note how the U.Violet granulates) I put in the background washes for the boundaries of the foliage. This was a combination of olive green for the lighter areas and Hooker's Green with varying amounts of Burnt Sienna(the more B.Sienna - the darker the wash so keep this for the very bottom parts). Most of this done wet into wet but don't mix TOO wet or mud will result.
