SALAR DE UYUNI | by Babak (Babaky)

Bolivia... Out of everything that we saw in South America, this was the place which amazed me the most. The salt salar of Uyuni is millions of years old and has come about as a result of drying up of a natural salt water lake. There are coral islands in this place which have cactus on them which are over 4000 years old so you can only begin to imagine the changes that this environment has gone through, and how magnificient it has developed as a result of natural changes ( without man's help).

We also were there for sunrise, and I have never seen light like it...Very difficult to capture in its true form, but this gives you some idea. This is the largest salt flat in the world and measures a mind numbingly 4085 sq. miles, at an altitude of 3656meters above sea level. It contains 50-70% of the world's lithium reserves and is the sole supple of salt for the whole of Bolivia.
