The Copper Mare

The statue of King Karl IX is a meeting place in Gothenburg and is called The Copper Mare, in swedish Kopparmärra (a disrespectful and humorous name as it is a stud).

Karl IX lived 1550-1611 and founded the first city with the name Göteborg (Gothenburg) - it was later destroyed by the Danes.

Sculptor: John Börjeson (1836-1910). The statue was inaugurated 1904. John Börjeson made a lot of statues, another one in Gothenburg is the statue of Jonas Alströmer.
