looking across Cook Strait

A view of the South Island taken from near the summit of the Paekakariki Hill Road looking out across Pukerua Bay and Cook Strait. It was a mild spring day and the sea was very calm.

For those interested in such things the coastline of the South Island shown here in the background is approximately 53kms away in a straight line from where I was standing when I took this photo.

The snow covered mountains, to left of and below the two clouds, which you can barely make out, are even further away - at approximately 170kms.

It was definitely a clear day !!
