  • Maganda without doubt. Sobriety lang kaso ang kulang in order to better emphasize the passion of our Lord. This is the essential thing and not the decors. Honest opinion though... God bless - Macarius

ROFLMAO, Nico. I have a fondness for adapting imported images and making them "sariling atin". I thought this was a very witty take on that concept. It beats those images that Leo observes have "... peninsular pretensions" like decking Philippine madonnas out with mantillas and fans or perpetrating the latest trend in devotions to Macarena Virgins that has absolutely no bearing on the Filipino experience!

I'm sorry, I don't have any reliable information on sources, other than that I was told that the images were carved by Mr. Crispin "Mang Impin" Cadawas of Paete, Laguna, who was also the Vecin Workshop's main sculptor for many years (before he was incapacitated by a stroke some years ago).

Is this an imitation of style used by the Tengcos of Baliuag? Filipiniana? And the two guys taking down Jesus from the cross, why do they have halos/sinag, are they saints?

holy katipuneras and katipuneros ba sila? the only thing i find correct here is Jesus (without the silver star on His left chest, of course.)

    my opinion..

I was told that this Malolos tableau (including its Filipiniana style) predated the Baliwag tableau by some years at least. (This is from about the early 1980's if I remember correctly.)

In fact, it has been reported that this was the inspiration for the Baliwag tableau that you refer to.
