Snow and the Seams of the Bean
We hit the Bean... aka 'Cloudgate' at Millenium Park towards the end of the Chicago Area Photowalk on 3.5.11.
Snow was falling and it was starting to stick.
I noticed that the snow was melting as if fell on the Bean except for where the welders had welded the pieces of the sculpture together. They polished out the surface of the joints but I'm assuming the welds remain below the panels.
My guess is that the welded joints have more mass and they remained colder than the rest of the sculpture causing the snow not to melt on the joints.
It was a grid pattern and it really matched up in a cool way with the grid of the paving tiles.
You're looking at the Bean in this image... everything you see, except for the snow is a reflection.
