The Yerebatan Sarai (Basilica Cistern), Istanbul

This cistern was built by the Eastern Roman/Byzantine Emperor Justinian after the Nika Riots in 532 CE/AD to provide an additional source of water for Constantinople. It is supported by 336 columns, in 12 rows of 28. It was rediscovered by the French antiquarian Pierre Gilles in the 1560's, and I believe was also featured in the James Bond film, "From Russia with Love."
