Sterling Acterra

The now defunct Sterling brand was once Ford's heavy truck division. Daimler Chrysler acquired and re-branded it in 1997. In 2008, while Daimler Chrysler was facing a fight for its existence at the height of the global financial crisis, it was decided that Sterling should be shuttered in order to allow Daimler to just focus on Freightliner and Western Star. And that was the end of Sterling's 12 year long life, resulting as well in the elimination of the last remnants of Ford's heavy commercial truck division (on whose vehicles models like the Acterra were still based) in the USA and Canada.
