Roadrunner Portrait - Bosque Del Apache NWR - New Mexico

EXPLORE # 198 - It is not often--in fact almost NEVER--that a wild Roadrunner has allowed me this close of an approach. Of course, he flared his crown feathers and showed me those beautiful fleshy post ocular orange and blue colors!

I realized shortly after a set of photos through the car window, why he was so still.

Immediately after I shot off a nice series of photos, he scampered into the roadside ditch for cover. A Prairie Falcon then swooped down over the car just over this bird's head! Wow! What a wildlife moment that was. Wish I had been at a distance to have captured all of that scenario on video!!!! Very cool, indeed!!

BTW--most folks do not know, this, but a Roadrunner is in the Cuckoo family!!!!

I'll never forget that was the $250,000 question on the old Regis Philben show--Who Wants to be a Millionaire!!! Needless to say, I would have won that quarter million easily. The contestant sadly, did not know!!!
