Zydeco Jam at the St. Landry Parish Visitor Center, Feb. 9, 2019
Corey Ledet on accordion, accompanied by Zydeco Joe Citizen on rubboard, led the first monthly zydeco jam session at the St. Landry Parish Visitor Center located a few miles north of Opelousas at exit 23 on I-49. Herman Fuselier, the new executive director of the St. Landry Parish Tourist Commission (cajuntravel.com/), announced that a jam session will be held at the center 1-3 p.m. on the second Saturday of each month.

The photos were taken during the first hour of the session. For some excellent photos published in the Advocate’s Acadiana edition that show more of the event go to the photos by Robin May or the article by Megan Wyatt with photos. I relied on the Advocate’s coverage to get the names of other jam participants.

The next session, on March 9, will feature Lawrence Ardoin and will mark the first anniversary of the unveiling of a statue of the legendary Amédé Ardoin in the garden in front of the center. (Lawrence Ardoin is a son of Alphonse “Bois Sec” Ardoin, who was Amédé Ardoin’s cousin.)
