The Choupique Cajun Band at the Lakeview Park Mardi Gras Boucherie Barn Dance
By the time I arrived at the annual Lakeview Park Mardi Gras Boucherie about 1 p.m., everything but the pig’s head had already been cut up and transformed into a variety of Cajun foods from boudin to gratons to fressures and other items. Everyone was dancing in the barn to some great music provided by the Choupique Cajun Band. The group included Jesse Brown on accordion and lead vocals; Anglyn Brown on guitar. Bill Grass on fiddle; Kent Lavigne on bass; and Warren Thomassie on drums. For more information about the band, go to www.facebook.com/ChoupiqueCajunBand/.

I went to a Lakeview Mardi Gras Boucherie a number of years ago when it was held outside. This time, the boucherie preparations took place in a large enclosure attached to the barn. It started at 8 a.m. The band played 11:30-2:30. Held every year the day before Mardi Gras, it’s an event that anyone in the area for Mardi Gras should really enjoy. All of the photos in the album were taken with available light. I didn’t notice it at the time, but the barn lighting had a flicker that changed the color cast back and forth. Had I realized, I could have used a camera setting that can compensate for this problem instead of trying to make adjustments in Lightroom.
