Johnnie Allan, Travis Matte at the Rayne Frog Festival, May 12, 2018
Johnnie Allan and Travis Matte teamed up for a double-bill show early Saturday evening May 12, 2018, at the 46th annual Rayne Frog Festival.

During the first hour, eighty-year-old Johnnie Allan, backed by the Kingpins, sang his numerous swamp pop hits along with “La bague qui brille.” Travis Matte joined him on accordion for two or three songs, including the finale, “Promised Land.” Then Travis Matte and the Kingpins took the stage to deliver their popular brand of high energy Cajun and Zydeco for the next hour. I photographed them during the opening part of their performance until random shafts of light from the setting sun began to shine through the pavilion rafters onto the band, creating very sharp contrasts that I figured I couldn’t correct in post-processing.
