Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys Cajun Christmas, Liberty Theater, Dec. 9, 2017
Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys brought a Cajun Christmas to the Liberty Theater, Dec. 9, 2017, with carols, songs from their Christmas CD “Party at the Holiday, All Night Long!”, and other Christmas favorites.

The show opened with carols and Christmas songs performed by students from the Brazos Huval School of Music, including Mary Harris, Georgie Mae Harris, Peter Harris, Gabrielle LeBlanc, and Will Louviere.

Then Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys offered the crowd songs like “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home!),” “Blue Christmas” (in French and English), “All I Want for Christmas, Dear, Is You,” and “Louisiana Christmas Day” from their CD, as well as “Bad Boy Christmas” (from The Tractors’ 2002 CD “The Big Night”) and other Christmas songs.

Melete Terry handled lead vocals on “Please Come Home for Christmas” with Steve Riley joining in. Alena Savoy sang “O Holy Night” with Melete Terry on backup vocals and organ and Chris Stafford on piano.

Burke Riley on accordion and Dolsy Riley on bells and guitar sang “Jingle Bells” and “Zydeco est pas salé” with their father.

The band also played “La chanson de Mardi Gras,” in anticipation of another holiday only two months from now, “Bon rêve” and “Allons danser.” The show closed with the “Party at the Holiday, All Night Long!”, a rousing tribute to the Holiday Lounge, a famous Mamou night spot.

In addition to Steve Riley, members of the Mamou Playboys were Kevin Wimmer, Sam Broussard, Brazos Huval, and Kevin Dugas. Herman Fuselier was the emcee.
