Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys, Eunice Mardi Gras Street Dance, Feb. 13, 2018
After spending about three hours on a photographic trip to Lafayette that didn’t pan out, I returned to Eunice where Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys were on stage for the Mardi Gras Street Dance, Feb. 13, 2018. Contrasts between dark and light areas on stage and color casts from stage lighting were once again a problem. The sky was overcast, and, by about 5:30 or so, dark clouds moved in and there was a rumble of thunder while Steve and his son Burke performed “La Chanson de Mardi Gras” with two Mardi Gras on stage dancing and cutting up. I didn’t want to switch lenses during the rain, so all of the shots at this point were taken with my 24-70 mm lens. The light rain continued, so I decided to leave. (The rain let up soon afterwards.)
