Charivari Reunion at Festivals Acadiens et Créoles, Lafayette, Oct. 15, 2017
Members of Charivari, a phenomenal Cajun group that disbanded in 2005, performed at Scène Ma Louisiane at Festivals Acadiens et Créoles in Lafayette’s Girard Park late Sunday afternoon, Oct. 15, 2017.

As I recall, they were scheduled to release their second CD, “A Trip to the Holiday Lounge,” at the Liberty Theater right before Katrina hit New Orleans, home to several band members. They, of course, had to cancel, and in the aftermath of the storm, were not able to re-establish the band. In 2017, the reunited Charivari sounded as great as ever. I was there for the first part of the set, including the classic “Le Holiday,” written by Mitch Reed and Randy Vidrine, featuring Randy’s signature no-holds-barred vocals and incredible twin fiddling by Mitch Reed and Jonno Frishberg. Among those in the crowd next to the stage: Eugene Manuel, owner of the Holiday Lounge in Mamou and son of the man who established it, T-Ed Manuel.
