Harry Trahan CD release with Lisa Trahan and friends, Liberty Theater, Oct. 6, 2017
Veteran Cajun musician Harry Trahan, joined by his daughter, Lisa Trahan, and other musicians celebrated the release of his CD “Coeur et Âme: Harry Trahan avec Ses Amis et Sa Famille” at the Liberty Theater Oct. 6, 2017.

In addition to Lisa Trahan on guitar, musicians on the CD also present at the Liberty were Zachary Fuselier on fiddle and vocals; Henry Hample on fiddle; Louie Aucoin on washtub bass and one vocal. Other musicians on the CD included Renée Reed (Lisa’s daughter) and Wilvin “Willie T” Trahan (Harry’s brother).

Shannon Aucoin on guitar and Ashton Aucoin (Louie and Shannon’s son) played fiddle and sang two songs at the Liberty. Pope Huval hosted the show, which featured songs from the CD and an accordion set by Lisa Trahan with members of her band, L’esprit cadien.

New songs on the CD include “Odile Special,” written for the late Milton Vanicor by his daughter as a tribute to his late wife and recorded for the first time with Zachary Fuselier on vocals; and “La Valse à Reuben,” a tribute to the late wife of Harry “Reuben” (spelled “Reubin” on a 2001 CD) Trahan.

Also on the CD is “M & S Special” by Pee Wee Broussard, a song named after the M & S Electrical Shop on North Parkerson in Crowley, the location of J.D. Miller’s studio, where the song was first recorded in 1952. “Mon Bon Vieux Mari,” first recorded by Cléoma Falcon, features vocals on the CD by Renée Reed (Harry’s granddaughter) with lyrics in which Harry offers humorous responses to a wife’s persistent questions to her husband. Willie T plays saxophone on the CD while Harry sings and plays the triple-row accordion in zydeco versions of “Big Boss Man” and “Fannie Mae.”

I got my copy of the CD at the Liberty. Downloads (including a listing of the 14 cuts) are available on sites like Amazon and CD Baby (store.cdbaby.com/cd/harrytrahan).
