Pelican 212, Harris Family Band at the Liberty Theater June 3, 2017
Pelican 212, a young group with Louisiana roots that has appeared on national TV shows, performed at the Liberty Theater June 3, 2017, along with the Harris Family Band--two sisters and their brother who are students at the Brazos Huval School of Music in Breaux Bridge.

On June 6, 2017, three days after their Liberty Theater performance, Pelican 212 will appear on “America’s Got Talent” on NBC. The group, composed of children of John and Linda Rees, consists of the twins Max and Kolbe on trumpets and vocals (I hope I have them identified correctly in the photos), along with big sister Katie, Angelle, Marie, Giovanni, and Mollie, most playing more than one instrument with several also singing lead vocals. Linda, their mother, joined them for one number. They played a variety of American favorites.

Pelican 212 debuted on the Liberty stage last December to open a Christmas show that featured Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys. A number of years ago, members of the Rees family formed the band L’Angelus, which also played at the Liberty.

Members of the Harris Family Band are Georgie, 15, on accordion, and Mary, 12, on fiddle, who handle most of the vocals featuring a lot of harmony, along with Peter, 16, on guitar. They recently performed at Festival International de Louisiane in Lafayette.

At the end of the show, both bands came together on stage, joined by Steve Riley’s sons, Burke on accordion and Dolsy on t-fer, concluding the show with “La porte d’en arrière.” The show was hosted by Derek Landry.

Show sponsors included Ronnie’s Cajun Café of Eunice, Mustang 107.1 radio, Café Mosaic of Eunice, and Ruddock’s Bakery of Crowley.

Steve Riley is putting together two more shows in the near future at the Liberty: “Creole Accordion Kings” featuring Curley Taylor, Preston Frank, Dexter Ardoin, Geno Delafose, and Corey Ledet on June 24 and “The Best of Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys” with guests David Greely, Eric Adcock, Melete Terry and Alena Savoy on July 29.
