Mardi Gras in Downtown Eunice, Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 25 and 26, 2017
These photos cover some of the bands performing on the Fred Charlie Stage in Downtown Eunice the weekend before 2017 Mardi Gras. Bands began playing Saturday morning, Feb. 25, while I was photographing courirs. I didn’t arrive downtown until about 4:00. I photographed the Basile Mardi Gras as they mingled with the crowd, begging and dancing, while Fred Charlie and the Acadiana Cajuns began their performance on the Fred Charlie Stage. The Mardi Gras later danced in front of the stage and sang their song for the crowd.

After the Liberty Theater’s Mardi Gras Show on Saturday, I took a few photos of Kyle Huval and the Dixie Club Ramblers on the Fred Charlie Stage. I had to contend with very strong contrasts between bright stage lights and deep shadows and didn’t get many usable shots. I went home for supper and returned to get a few photos of Jamie Bergeron and the Kickin’ Cajuns. I used flash on a few shots but wasn’t able to overcome problems with strong lighting contrasts in parts of the stage.

I spent Sunday morning in Church Point but returned to Eunice in time to get a few shots of La Récolte on the Fred Charlie Stage. I don’t know the name of the accordionist filling in for Shane Bellard. I wasn’t present for other Sunday activities in Eunice which, in addition to more music, included a boucherie in the morning and the return of the Children’s Mardi Gras Courir through Downtown Eunice in the afternoon about 3 p.m..
