Jr. Hebert and the Maurice Playboys at the Liberty Theater, Feb. 11, 2017
Jr. Hebert and the Maurice Playboys, the band that won almost all of the 2016 Le Cajun awards given by the Cajun French Music Association, performed for the first time at the Liberty Theater Feb. 11, 2017.

They played many songs from their award-winning CD, including the title cut, “Coursais une rêve,” which tells the story of Hebert’s determined efforts to learn to play the accordion. Besides winning Le Cajun awards for the CD of the Year, Traditional CD of the Year, and Best First CD, the Maurice Playboys were selected by the CFMA as Band of the Year, Jr. Hebert was named Accordionist of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year, and Jason Bergeron, the group’s fiddler, won Fiddler of the Year.

In addition to Jr. Hebert, other members of the band at the Liberty included Danny Cormier on steel guitar; Ricky Benoit on bass; and Butch Menard on drums. Zachary Fuselier filled in on fiddle for Jason Bergeron.
Derek Landry, Liberty Theater manager and KBON radio personality, hosted the show.
