Cupid, Koray Broussard at the Zydeco Breakfast, Downtown Opelousas, Sept. 1, 2018
The 16th annual Zydeco Breakfast, held Sept. 1, 2018, under the oak trees next to the Court House in downtown Opelousas, featured a double bill: Cupid (Bryson Bernard) followed by Koray Broussard and The Zydeco Unit. Line dancers showed off their synchronized moves during Cupid’s performance, ending with his national hit, “Cupid Shuffle.” Everyone then shifted gears to dance to some classic zydeco provided by Koray Broussard. Vendors served special breakfast items under the oaks and at nearby restaurants.

Later in the day, I had planned to attend area zydeco festivals, but, when I started out from Eunice, I discovered that my 2007 Honda Fit had an irreparable flat tire. I couldn’t drive to Opelousas or Rayne on an emergency compact spare tire, and I couldn’t get a replacement tire until Monday afternoon. I hope to make it to the festivals next year.
