Ryan Simon and the Acadien Cajun Band at the Liberty Theater, Sept. 10, 2016
Ryan Simon and the Acadien Cajun Band returned to the Liberty Theater Sept. 10, 2016, to perform more great Cajun music, including songs from the past rarely heard today. In addition to Cajun standards, the band played songs like Jack Leger’s “Blue Goose Special” (named for a club in Eunice), Ambrose Thibodeaux’s “Ridge Road Waltz,” and a twin-fiddle number by Floyd LeBlanc titled “Roseland Two-Step.”

In addition to Ryan Simon on accordion, fiddle, and vocals, other band members were Mitch Schexnyder, fiddle and vocals; Chad Huval, bass; T-Joe Romero, guitar; and Trevor Landry, drums. Schexnyder played a fiddle built by the legendary Vermilion Parish fiddler and fiddle maker Lionel LeLeux (1912-1996). If you look closely, you can see a tag with a photo of LeLeux hanging from the fiddle. (For some numbers,Schexnyder and Simon traded fiddles.) Earlene Broussard hosted the show.

All of the photos were shot with a Sigma 150-600 mm f/5-6.3 lens with optical stabilization inadvertently (in the darkness of the theater) turned off
