Joe Simon and the Cajun Hearts at the Liberty Theater, Aug. 31, 2013
Joe Simon and the Cajun Hearts, the band that performed at the Liberty Theater Aug. 31, 2013, features two of the top vocalists in Cajun music. Joe Simon, a guitarist who is also a member of Jamie Berzas and Cajun Tradition, has the vocal range and timbre that enable him to do an excellent job on almost any song. Joining him as the other Cajun Hearts vocalist was Jamey Bearb, winner of the 2013 Cajun French Music Association’s Le Cajun awards as Male Vocalist of the Year and as Fiddler of the Year. He also was the vocalist for the Song of the Year, performed by High Performance, winner of other awards, including the Band of the Year. In addition to solos during their Liberty set, the two also sang some beautiful harmony vocals on several numbers. Justin Cormier played accordion, and he and Jamey Bearb played twin fiddles on several songs. Other members of the group were David Guidry on bass and Blake Huval on drums. Pope Huval, who hosted the show, helped out with harmony vocals on one song.

Note: Joe Simon and the Louisiana Cajuns, another band that performs at the Liberty from time to time, is led by a different Joe Simon. He plays drums and also is another excellent vocalist.
