Downtown Cajun Band from Holland at the Liberty Theater, May 7, 2011
The Downtown Cajun Band from Holland played at the Liberty Theater on May 7, 2011. Founded by fiddler Will Pieters, the band plays traditional Cajun music (Pieters lists Dennis McGee, Wade Fruge, and Dewey Balfa as the musicians who influenced him the most). Other members are Ed van Dorp, guitar and vocals; Ron van Doorneveld, accordion and vocals; Netty Pieters, tit fer. The band has performed at various festivals in Europe and visits Louisiana when they can. For more information about the band, check out their web site at www.downtowncajunband.nl/

During their Liberty Show, the Downtown Cajun Band did an excellent job playing traditional versions of “La porte d’en arrière,” “La valse des platains,” “Back of Town Two-Step,” “Les pinières,” “Jongle à moi,” “La Valse de Pont d'Amour,” “Madame Sosthène," and “L'Anse aux Paille.”

Ryan Simon, leader of the Acadien Cajun Band, hosted the show for the first time, doing a fine job offering comments and interviewing the musicians in French and English.
